Foundation of a hydraulic press, Poland

Foundation of a hydraulic press, Poland

We have showcased work done on machine foundations several times. You can read more about the role and features of a foundation by clicking the links below. Fundations Milling the foundation plate as well as about WWtech’s capabilities in flat surface milling: Milling flat surfaces This time, we machined foundation plates for the columns of a hydraulic press. In addition to milling, holes for foundation bolts were also bored. The relative positioning of the individual surfaces of the foundation plates is crucial in such cases. Therefore, we always use a Laser Tracker in these situations.

Lay Dam HPP, Alabama, USA

Lay Dam HPP, Alabama, USA

The Lay Dam HPP is a gravity-dam run-of-river power plant on Coosa River, with 6 units of 30 MW where 4 units are foreseen to be upgraded in the near future. All units are of Kaplan type with fixed runner blades known as propeller-type Kaplan turbines. Commisioned in 1967 HPP is operated by Alabama Power Company. Lay Dam HPP is our first American project, carried out in collaboration with Litostroj Hydro, which is responsible for the turbine modernization.    Our scope included machining in the flow section: the lower and upper rings, as well as boring holes for the installation of guide vane journal bearings.   More about line boring: […]

Drum dryers, Poland

Drum dryers, Poland

Using our proprietary technology, we performed the calibration of the drying rolls’ surfaces. Simultaneously, the eccentricity causing radial run-out was eliminated.   Drum dryers are classified as contact dryers with an adhering layer of drying material. This type of dryer uses a steam-heated cylinder, where the moist material is applied to the cylinder’s outer surface. The material is deposited as a thin, uniform layer on the rotating drum, where it is dried within a partial rotation and then scraped off with a special knife. This drying system is versatile, suitable for liquids, various gels, and paste-like substances. These dryers are used in the production of potato flakes, modified starches, yeast, […]

Milling of Steel Bases, Fehmarnbelt Tunnel Construction, Denmark

Milling of Steel Bases, Fehmarnbelt Tunnel Construction, Denmark

The Fehmarnbelt road and rail tunnel, currently under construction, will connect Denmark and Germany. Named the Femern Link, this structure is set to become the world’s longest road-rail tunnel, the longest underwater road tunnel, the deepest road-rail tunnel, and the second deepest concrete tunnel globally.   We have a small role in this major infrastructure project! Our task was to achieve a flat surface on eight steel benches, each 7.7 meters long, as well as on eight shorter plates, with a total flatness of less than 1 mm. As seen in one of the photos, we managed to achieve an even better result. To accomplish this, we used the WWTECH […]

Cutting the shaft

Cutting the shaft

Once again, we are cutting something of large dimensions. Usually, these are pipes, but this time it’s a welded shaft, where part of the narrow-gap weld had to be removed. The shaft has a diameter of over 1400 mm, and the cut was made to a depth of 140 mm. Cutting and bevelling of pipes Other examples of large diameter cutting and bevelling

Xayaburi HPP, Laos

Xayaburi HPP, Laos

Xayaburi HPP (Sayaburi) power plant on the Mekong River, with a capacity of 1,285 MW, operated by CKPower Ltd. The plant, which was commissioned in October 2019, is equipped with 7 units of 175MW each, supplied by ANDRITZ. Our task was to design, manufacture, deliver, and implement two special machine tools for final machining of the new Kaplan turbine components on-site in Laos. A specially designed, mobile, universal circular milling machine with a working range of up to fi2000mm, A mobile boring machine (actually, two boring machines, thanks to an additional mounting system) based on the iconic BB5000, was prepared by our company upon the customer’s special request. The entire […]

Kayrakkum units 4 and 3, Tajikistan

Kayrakkum units 4 and 3, Tajikistan

“At GE’s invitation, the supplier of new turbo sets, we are performing machining on additional units. We have just finished work on unit number 5, the second of six, being machined by us. Four more units are ahead of us.” This sentence appears in the previous post about this power plant from 2022. ➝ Click to see the previous post about the Kayrakkum power plant and the photo gallery In 2023 and 2024, we performed machining on the next two units: U4 and U3. The scope, similar to units U6 and U5: machining of the upper and lower rings, face and cylindrical surfaces, drilling and tapping of holes in the […]

Bjufors HPP, Sweden

Bjufors HPP, Sweden

Bjufors HPP, a power plant owned by Statkraft, is located on the Umealven River in northern Sweden. It consists of two units with a total power of 42 MW. Similar to Bergvik, in 2023, we carried out mobile machining services at Bjufors for Unit 1, and this year, the same scope of work is being performed for Unit 2. The scope includes: machining of the rotor chamber (spherical surface).

Balforsen HPP, Sweden

Balforsen HPP, Sweden

Balforsens HPP, a power plant owned by E.ON, is located at the Ume reservoir dam in northern Sweden. It consists of two units with a total power of 88 MW. In 2024, we carried out mobile machining services at Bjufors, focusing on the machining of the runner chamber – spherical surface, for Unit 1.

Ojeforsen HPP, Sweden
